Home Staging is the art of preparing your home to sell in such a way that raises its value and appeals to a large number of buyers. The result is a quick sell and extra money in the bank. Here are six tips to get you started in staging your home.
1. Re-caulk Bathtubs, Showers, and Sinks
Caulking can last for a long time but if you’ve lived in your home for many years it’s likely that it needs to be replaced. Over time, caulking begins to erode, shrink, and discolor. Even if everything else in your bathroom is clean, discolored caulking will make it look unappealing. Re-caulk to give it that new look that appeals to buyers.
2. Clean Out Your Closets
Closet space can be a determining factor for many home buyers. If your closets don’t have any space, then buyers won’t have any space for your home on their list of potential purchases. Get on that list by cleaning out and organizing your closets. This will make your closets appear more spacious and buyers won’t cross you off their list simply because of your crowded closets.
3. Stage Your Room With Purpose
If you have a spare room, set it up in a way that buyers can see themselves using it. Arrange that extra room in a way that says “Game Room” or “Office.” If buyers can see the potential of your home, they will become more excited about it.
4. Replace Your Wallpaper
The wallpaper designs in your home may be unappealing and outdated. Strip it off and put on a fresh coat of paint. Neutral colors such as light browns, light grays, taupe, or any kind of earthy colors are recommended. This avoids any loud colors that buyers may clash with and many buyers more readily envision themselves in a home with these types of colors.
5. Spruce Up Your Entryway
First impressions are king. Make sure your home has plenty of curb appeal. Buyers won’t ever step inside your home if the outside doesn’t catch their eye. Mow the lawn. Plant some flowers. Take care of the entrance to your home. Doorbells should be in working order and your door should not be difficult to open or weather-worn.
6. Clean Up Your Windows
Wash your windows and remove age-old dust from them. Make sure blinds are working and in order. The curb appeal of your home is contingent on your windows and doors and how attractive they look over time.
